Live in Supernatural Love

When it comes down to it, living a silver-candlestick life means that we must live a life filled with supernatural love. This is the kind of love described in 1 Corinthians 13:4–7: “Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance” (NLT).

Evangelist Bill Bright once said of this passage:

As you read those words, you might think, This describes an impossible love. I could never live up to such a standard.

And you would be correct. Who is able to love like that? That is why our only hope is to cast ourselves completely upon Him and invite the Holy Spirit to fill and empower us to love in a supernatural way. In humble faith, we will be filled with a love that is far above the natural, worldly variety. It will be a love against which the world can have no defense, for it confounds all expectations. It will overcome any barrier.

Through such a love as this, God will accomplish supernatural goals through you. And believe it or not, you can love anyone in this way—by faith.2

If you need to tap into the kind of faith that will lead to supernatural love, try praying:

Dear Lord,

I have a few people in my life I’m having trouble loving, including _____________. Please empower me with your Holy Spirit to help me become aware of the supernatural love you’re constantly giving me in an endless supply. Then shine this love through me on to those I’ve been unable to love in my human strength. I ask that you give me your compassionate perspective as well as your ability to love the difficult.

In Jesus’s name, amen.
